Misquoting Jesus #2
By
Bart Ehrman
It took awhile to come back to this book and finish reviewing its pages. Simply put, this is not a scholarly work, nor is it an honest one as the author only uses quotes and examples which support his theory and never once looks at the topic honestly.
The assumptions made were all basically unprovable and turned this work into a one note compliant about how no one has the originals and no one knows what the originals say. The whole work and the author deny God’s promise to preserve his word and he fails to acknowledge the influence of the devil in trying to thwart the passing on of God’s word.
The author paints a picture he wants the past to be and not what it is really, he assumes that all scribes and copyists made error upon error but he never cites one actual account of that taking place. It is all theory and conjecture as he paints a bleak picture of the transmission of the Bible.
One of his key errors is without the originals, how does he know 100% of the ancient mss. are in error? He assumes they all are because some are found to have mistakes. Another key mistake he makes is that he lumps all people who advocate some type of belief into one category of Christian and accepts their writings as valid even though they do not teach anything remotely close to the truth.
His blind acceptance of all mss. as Christian, is one of his un-doings . Then he completely ignores the facts of right and wrong, ethical and unethical behavior, and implies such characteristics are not present in the beginning centuries of the church. He also claims that Paul dictated his work and was smart enough to do that but not smart enough to proof read or double check the work of his ‘secretary’.
This book is full of errors and mistakes as it tries to spread lies and false teachings throughout the world. It is a very dishonest and biased book which describes only one side of the argument and completely ignores those scribes and copyists who did do it right. The author wants people to think that their English versions are all tainted (though some are) and should not be trusted to communicate God’s word.
That is complete bunk and is just another lie of the devil and is being used to undermine the message of how God wants His creation to live plus sow confusion and distrust among His followers. This is a book to be avoided as it has nothing good to say.
