The Case for Christ

By

Lee Strobel

This is an older book and many may have read it over the years but it is worth mentioning here because it is a well crafted work with strong evidence from qualified scholars.  The book was hard to put down as the experts laid out there positions with clarity, evidence and reason leaving little or no room to refute their points.

One of the week points comes with Mr. Strobel’s interview with Dr. John McCray.  In that interview Dr. McCray mentions some microscopic letters on a coin that provided proof for what they were talking about.  Now I have read Dr. McCray’s book, ‘Archaeology and the New Testament’ and as mentioned in the interview, the piece about the microscopic letters on the coin are mentioned and Dr. McCray used them as strong evidence for a Biblical account.

BUT the problem is, the man who ‘discovered’ those letters and the letters themselves have been legitimately discredited.  There are no such letters.  This is the one weak spot throughout the entire book.  The interviews alone are worth the price of the book as they help a believer sharpen their defense of what they believe and provide solid evidence to use in discussions and debates.

It also helps believers become aware that there are qualified Christian men out there doing their homework, and have found information to support the Bible.  One cannot rely on secular researchers to present the whole story concerning the past and we need men like these, and others to replace them, who can find and discern what the truth is and present it to the Christian community.

I do not know about the quality of Mr. Strobel’s other books but this one does do a good service in presenting the words of these scholars in a readable and understandable manner so that everyone can learn from what they have studied over the decades and take heart that all is not lost but that God continues to raise up men to find and keep the truth alive.
