The Rape of Nanking

by

Iris Chang

This book by the late Iris Chang is compelling and worth the time to read as it depicts a pasrt of the Japanese involvement in World War 2, which in modern times, the Japanese have refused to acknowledge or apologize for.

Ms. Chang did a good job in detailing the events that took lace in China, which were repeated over and over again in other cities under Japanese occupation and control of their war machine.  It is not fiction nor is it a product of a wild imagination as in knowing some teachers who have had students and in having the possibility of teaching students whose relatives were used in such a manner makes this a story too real to sweep under the rug.

What Ms. Chang does is reveal the depths of depravity that man can go when not influenced nor guided by a supreme morality or have rejected Christ a their savior. The picture she includes with this work are very grapgic, unforgetable and help bring the point home that those without Christ do not consider their fellow man worth anything more than reusable garbage.

This book helps illustrtae the depths that the Israelites went when the Bible records their actions with the phrase, "and everyone did was right in their own eyes...' It helps us to understand why God took the actions He did when he sent punishment after punishment upon His chosen people.  It also helps to illustrate the patience of God when people disobey Him and lead a life of sin and make us even more grateful for His grace.

Throughout the pages of this book we see how low man can go when they reject God's morality and it becomes an anything goes world where the strong oppress and dominate the weak.  This book and the pictures are not for everyone but they do remind us that we need to pray and stand up against the evil practices of all people, reminding us of what really is important in this world.

Hopefully it will motivate people to avoid the latest building project and turn their attention to what really matters--people.  The only way we are going to make an impact against evil is to fight it with God's ways and instructions putting aside our own understanding and methods. It is time for the church to decide which side it is on and prepare itself for what will come.
